Adana Tillman's solo exhibition, I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE is about that slow morning with a cup of tea, that first dance with a new love; finding beauty in the banal. Within these works are snapshots into the lives of family, friends, loved ones. who live abundantly by taking pleasure in the small acts. Tillman's textiles illustrate how embracing these moments are what brings joy to our lives. These Interlaced textiles come together from the artist’s own journey to create quilted depictions of admiration.
Adana Tillman (b. 1985) a textile and fiber artist, explores the journey of identity through her figurative portraits. Tillman uses found fabrics to tell stories of the African Diaspora, exploring fashion and identity. Mixing bold patterns, colors and beadwork, she shows how Black people in her works are living out loud and unapologetically. Tillman’s mastery of quilting, embroidery and hand dyeing her materials are all skills that have been passed down from her mother. Most recently, Adana Tillman’s work was featured in the Resting Our Eyes group exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco curated by Autumn Breon and Tahirah Rasheed. Tillman has presented at Prizm Art Fair during Miami Art Week, was an artist-in-residence at Black Art Access Residency (BAAR) Berlin, as well as a Leña artist-in-residence and was a TILA Garden Fellow.
